New identity for the German Language Film Festival Ottawa.

The Embassies of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland are teaming up to bring Ottawa audiences a special treat – a series of screenings featuring some of the finest German-language films from recent years. This annual event promises to showcase exceptional cinema that often goes unnoticed in North America.

I was tasked with creating a new event identity that would stand out, captivate viewers, and withstand the test of time. Taking cues from the renowned Swiss design aesthetic prevalent in German-speaking countries, I crafted an iconic and visually striking logo. The design features a rectangular block symbolizing the cinema screen, while a triangular element represents speech, encapsulating the initials for German Language. Two circles denote film rolls, containing the initials for Film Festival, with subtle motion to evoke the dynamic nature of film rolls spinning. Lastly, the 'O' for Ottawa is incorporated into a 'location' icon, tying the event to its host city.

The clean and clear visual language accompanying the icon ensures that the film's title and imagery take center stage, allowing the audience to focus on the essence of each film.
